Michelle & Steve brought me down to Coyaba in Montego Bay, Jamaica for their beautiful wedding.  I had a great time, and so did they as you can see from the slideshow!

Every now and then I see folks touting that they are strictly a natural or available light only photographer. Typically, this will mean someone is not comfortable with lighting, especially on location. So what happens when this natural light photographer gets into a situation where available light is just plain boring? The image can be stroked in Photoshop and salvaged somewhat, but there are times when available light just won’t do.

The image above is an example of making the best of bad weather. It had rained the entire wedding day, so we planned to come out the morning after to what we assumed would be nice weather again. We were wrong. While it wasn’t raining, it was so overcast and gray that it made lighting the shot necessary. The shot below is literally what we had to deal with. There is not much you can do with that light alone without supplemental lighting.

The experience and skill level of your photographer can make a blah day interesting. Options are good! Here is another example shot the same time:

I’ve been slow in getting this wedding on the blog. Ten days in Jamaica can set a boy back! Katie & Bob’s wedding was wonderful and full of fun. The weather didn’t cooperate, but everyone involved made sure it just didn’t matter.

They were up for it. I was up for it. It was so fun to shoot. It was literally the coolest part.

I’ve never dove off anything higher than, say, five feet. This is from about 25 feet or so, depending on where the waves are. The cliffs in Negril are the coolest place, just amazing. Here is a shot of where I’m jumping from. Look for the red chairs in the upper left part of the shot, then take that retaining wall all the way to the left where you’ll see the highest point that is safe to jump. It’s so addicting!

A preview of Sara and Frank’s wedding in Montego Bay will be posted once we get back. I just got into Negril, and I have to say Negril is beyond amazing. It wasn’t one hour I was here before I was diving off the highest platform I could find that looked safe. Over the next several days I’ll be enjoying Negril and preparing for Katie & Robert’s wedding.
